Alicia L. Anderson believes that God gives everyone a special gift when they are born. What they decide to do with it, is their gift back to Him. Writing is hers; she's a lyricist, poet, fictional writer and children's storyteller. Her imagination and desire to shine Gods loving light through her words are what inspired this book. Along with a desire for a series of books to follow "The Little Coconut" exploring many island adventures and heart felt life lessons yet to be discovered. Alicia was born in the summer of 1969 in Ann Arbor, MI. She currently resides in Ormond Beach, FL. and spends a lot of time as well on Scotland Cay, a private island located in the Abaco-Bahamas. She has one son Dalton, who is a musician attending Daytona State College pursuing his musical journey. Her imagination and ability to see what others often cannot, make her an exceptional writer and storyteller. She has a way of touching others and sharing her love for God with a gentle touch of imagery and imagination. She hopes that after you are finished reading "The Little Coconut" your inner light will connect with a far greater one. Meaningful and entertaining!

This children's book is great! The Little Coconut teaches children as it entertains them. I love children's books that have a message and/or a life lesson, and this book definitely has a message that Little Coconut delivers as he goes through his adventures. Additionally, the illustrations are bright, beautiful and inviting. The story line is well written and really brings Little Coconut to life. I can't wait for his next adventure!

Not worth it

I purchased this shortly after being diagnosed with breast cancer at age 36. After hearing devastating news like, "You have cancer," I bought tons of books - informational, inspirational and this one. With the warning, "Do not read this book in the immediate postoperative period due to risk of popping a suture or staple closer," I thought this would be one of those "pick-me-up" books helping me to add laugh-therapy to my experience.

What I didn't expect was to be so appalled at this "Chemo Prima Donna" and using her chemo experience and cancer to guilt friends into bringing food and gifts to buying her artwork as part of "sympathy sales". Chapter 2, "Milking it for All It's Worth" about said it all. She even states, "You may declare me a shameless hussy and accuse me of abusing my friends..." Yes, that is exactly what I thought.

Were there parts of the book that made me laugh? After chapter 2 I kept reading hoping to find something that would have justified the $16.95 pricetag. After putting up with 3/4 of the book and finding only one or two very small things that were slightly funny, I decided it wasn't worth my time to finish reading it.

This book may be for some, but for many of us it's not. A good, fun, light-hearted book not cancer related is a much better investment.

This woman is not particularly funny. Based on her book, she is a total user. Having gone through chemo, surgery, etc five times, I would NEVER do the things she does to take advantage of my friends and family.

AMAZING.

Dear Courtney,

You remind me so much of a wonderful writer named Marina Keegan. She passed tragically Winter/Spring of 2012 in MA, USA. She had a life of talented writing ahead of her. You remind me of her because you're both SO young and have so much knowledge. I can't express to you how awesome some of these poems are. When I encountered "23" on Tumblr a couple years ago I was immediately drawn to follow you. Every time I saw the famous "c.p." I knew it'd be an amazing piece.

I loved this book. I like how each poem fit a certain theme based on the section of the book it was in. I found Pillow Thoughts to be very relatable, and it certainly made me feel things.

About the Author
Jerome Sachs, DSW, is Associate Professor at Smith College School for Social Work, where he teaches in the practice and human behavior and the social environment sequences. Dr. Sachs has written articles and presented at conferences on topics that include play and psychoanalysis, work with a group of homeless people, the phenomenology of social work practice, and clinical work and social action. In 1992 he produced two hour-long videos on the lives of a homeless man and a homeless woman. Before going to Smith College in 1987, Dr. Sachs worked with street gangs, was a group worker and community organizer in settlement houses, and practiced and supervised psychoanalysis. He also taught social work, sociology, and psychoanalysis in New York City. For the past twelve years, he has been involved with issues of rural homelessness and welfare rights. In addition, Dr. Sachs is a member of the steering committee of the Bertha Capen Reynolds Society.

Fred Newdom, ACSW, is President of ProAct, an Albany, New York, consulting firm specializing in advocacy and organizational development services. He also teaches courses in social policy at the Smith College School for Social Work in Massachusetts and other schools. Mr. Newdom also has served as chair of the Board of New York State NARAL (National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League) and is currently chair of the Bertha Capen Reynolds Society, a national organization of progressive workers in the human services. His advocacy work has included work with AIDS organizations, legislative and organizing projects related to tax policy, lobbying for the WIC program, and working for decent welfare reform. He was Executive Director of the New York State chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and chaired NASW's Committee on Peace and Social Justice.

Dr. Sachs and Mr. Newdom collectively bring over seventy years of casework, group work, and social justice work to the writing of this book.
